Gambling on short term trips to nowhere that are promoted by cruise lines should be banned or at the very least be subject to Australian gaming regulations and taxed at the same rate as casinos, the Executive Director of the Australian Casino Association, Chris Downy, said today.

Australia’s thirteen casinos hosted 2,088 conventions and meetings during 2001-02, according to the latest ACIL Tasman Casino Industry survey. The survey, the eighth annual survey commissioned by the Australian Casino Association, found that the top five conventions attracted more than 25,000 patrons.
